I am trained in the Ingham Method of Reflexology. It is the combined work of the late Eunice Ingham and her nephew Dwight C. Byers, the world’s leading authority on Foot Reflexology.
Reflexology is certainly not new. The art of Reflexology can be traced back to 2330 B.C. in ancient Egypt and also in India and China. Reflexology as we know it today is attributed to the work of Eunice Ingham, an American Therapist. In the early 1930's Eunice mapped out reflex points on the feet and hands that correspond to all of the organs, glands and parts of the body. For example, the toes represent the head and the ball of the foot represents the chest and lung region.
A typical foot reflexology treatment lasts 45-50 minutes and it is generally recommended that a course of 4-6 weekly treatments is considered, however the frequency of treatments is up to you, and may vary depending on your state of health and long term objectives. Reflexology is a complementary therapy now widely accepted by many GP’s and Nursing Homes. It is totally safe for people of all ages, from babies to the elderly, for pregnant women and those undergoing chemotherapy, radiation and cancer treatment. Whilst reflexology works very well alongside conventional medicine, it should never be used in place of seeking professional medical advice.
Research has shown the specific techniques of reflexology to be effective and beneficial in many ways. A survey of 170 reflexology studies from 21 countries shows that reflexology is effective, impacting a variety of physical and psychological concerns
Reflexology is a wonderfully relaxing therapy that works on many levels, soothing, calming, balancing and boosting your entire body.
As a therapy, reflexology is not invasive - only the feet, and / or hands are worked. It is deeply relaxing yet surprisingly energizing - all part of its balancing capacity. You may feel you are being pampered during a reflexology session but do not underestimate the powerful effects this treatment can have on all of your body systems.
All body systems benefit from reflexology but you may notice the affect on your circulation, nervous and lymphatic systems in particular.
A reflexologist will begin a foot reflexology treatment by undertaking a thorough health, diet and lifestyle consultation. Following this, they will examine your feet and may ask further questions. The treatment will then begin with some general relaxation techniques, followed by a precise thumb and finger walking technique aimed at applying pressure to every reflex area on the top and bottom of the foot.
A reflexologist will always work both feet as part of a full treatment. The left foot represents the left side of the body and the right foot represents the right side of the body.
Reflexology is not ticklish as a firm pressure is used. If a particular part of the body is out of balance, the corresponding reflex may feel tender or sore during the treatment. It is important that you let the practitioner know so that steps may be taken to rectify this discomfort. Generally people describe any areas of tenderness as a ‘sweet pain’ which is both bearable and beneficial.

Subsequent 1 hour treatments = $90.

I am a Professional Member of the Reflexology Association of Australia (RAoA). Health Fund Rebates for most complementary therapies were removed by the Government in April 2018.
